Etiwanda Historical Society’s Fall Open House
Sat. November 19, 2011 – 10am to 3pm
This annual event is fun for the whole family and easy on the wallet. Etiwanda has a unique history and the best place to learn about it is at the Chaffey-Garcia house on Etiwanda Avenue just north of Baseline Road. Its only $1 to get in and they have many interesting demonstrations and fun activities for the kids. Candle making is always popular or have you ever watched someone make lace by hand? You will be able to tour 5 buildings including The Etiwanda Church and the Depot. It is a must to take the docent led tour of the Chaffey-Garcia house. They do a great job at demonstrating what it would have been like growing up in the house, but also give the history of Etiwanda. I won’t give any interesting trivia away now, you can comment after the event and let me know what you thought was most interesting or surprising.
The grounds around the Chaffey-Garcia house and the Etiwanda Church are nice and shady, picnic tables available in the grassy area of the church or bring your picnic blanket. In the past they have had stew cooked in a big black kettle over the fire and a bake sale and refreshments. This year Etiwanda Avenue will be kept open. There may be a small fee for the individual crafts.
Enjoy the day and let me know what you thought about it.
